The best skiing in Italy

Dec 2

Ask virtually any serious Italian skier where the best place to ski in Italy is and they won’t blink before recommending Cortina D’Ampezzo. With jaw-dropping views and 12 ski areas, there are 750 miles of downhill runs, 73 miles of cross-country ski runs, a snowboarding park and an Olympic Bobsled. And the town itself, surrounded on all sides by the gorgeous Dolomite mountains (photo, above), is fabulous for apres-ski and people-watching. I don’t even know what more to say.

For rates & information on all 12 ski areas, ski rental, ski school, weather conditions, webcams and more, here’s a useful website.

Summertime: the rock faces in the photo above are known for mountain climbing, and there is also plenty of hiking in the area, as well as other great things nearby to see and do.

    Hi Madeline,
I am just back from the “Immaculata” in Corvara. You are right – the dolomites are the best, no question on that. Would love to talk to you about your repatriation experiences. [email protected]

Lucia, good to hear! I like Cervinia too, but the Dolomites really take the cake …

Hi, I agree with you that Cortina is really special resort. Due to my opinion, it is one of the best in Italy. Of course, each of resorts has its own advantages. The Italian Alps are just as beautiful as the rest of the range and the less well-known Dolomites are equally stunning with steeper and craggier peaks dominating the skyline!
