To say that my Sicilian friend Guido is passionate about music is somewhat of an understatement. After about year of devouring the music videos he posts on Facebook daily, I asked him for a list of the best Italian songs of all time. It was tough, but he managed to narrow it down to 19 songs, so here are the first five - by Fabrizio De Andre' and Lucio Battisti.
Bocca di Rosa, by Fabrizio De Andre' (which I'm putting first because it's been in my head after Giulia's comment)
Fiume Sand Creek, by Fabrizio De Andre'
Il Pescatore by Fabrizio De Andre'
Eppur Mi Son Scordato di Te, by Lucio Battisti
Amarsi un po' by Lucio Battisti
Of the 19 songs he chose, those are the only ones by Battisti and De Andre'. Do you agree that those are their best ones, or are there others by those artists that are your favorites and not included here? Stay tuned for Part II...

If you say Fabrizio De Andrè I can't stop writing about how I love his songs! The 3 songs Guido suggests are beautiful!! I would add Volta la Carta, and I would also suggest listening the songs written in the dialects of Sardinia(Zirichiltaggia) or of Genoa (Crêuza de mä). Not easy to understand, but really intersting in my opinion. Thank you Madeline and Guido!!

Ooh I'm going to go find the Sardinian dialect ones - I'm not sure I've heard them! Stay tuned for Venditti, Vasco, Capossela and more... :)

I'm no Italian music connoiseur but my husband loves L'Italiano by Toto Cutugno and since he has it on our (shared) iPod, it's completely in my head.

Nisha I didn't know that song but found it on YouTube and now I have it in my head too, thanks :) It's very catchy and this version with the lyrics is great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvA1utmKVxM

Thanks for your comment Michael, I'll ask Guido ;)
De Andre could monopolize the list couldn't he!

Nicely presented information in this post, I prefer to read this kind of stuff. The quality of content is fine and the conclusion is good. Thanks for the post.
